Derek James

Modern country - clever, melodic, positive.

California-born and Nashville-based, Derek James creates modern country music defined by West Coast roots, smooth vocals, and the sharp craft of Nashville songwriting. After trading a technical career in packaging engineering for the pull of Music City in 2021, James has built steady momentum as a dual-threat artist and songwriter - earning over 45 cuts and more than a million streams across his own releases. His sound, built on clever turns of phrase and a laid-back sense of optimism, has garnered consistent support from Spotify’s All New Country, CMT, and American Songwriter. Derek continues to work alongside producer Zach Manno to deliver music rooted in smart concepts and the kind of feel-good hooks you can turn up, sing along to, and live with.

“I'm hoping to gain some perspective on where to focus my time and energy to really move the needle as I continue building both my artist project and songwriting career. I'm also stoked to learn from the mentors, connect with other creatives, and build some lasting relationships along the way.”
